Los Angeles, April 6, 2023 – Triumphant Pictures is proud to announce the upcoming release of “Free,” a new film by Eboni Price. This coming-of-age drama tells the story of Spirit Anderson, a high school senior torn between her passion for rapping and her family obligations.
Imani Lewis stars as Spirit, a top-performing student who excels in English and loves to rap. But as she nears graduation, Spirit realizes that her dreams may not align with her family’s expectations, especially with her father’s constant abuse of her mother. With college looming, Spirit must decide between following her heart or doing what others expect of her.
The talented cast of “Free” includes Wendy Raquel Robinson as Moana, Clifton Powell as Ray, Valerie Pettiford as Phina, and Lane Gross as Mr. White. Rapper DreamDoll also stars in the film as Chillz.
“Free” is written and directed by Eboni Price, with Cecil Chambers serving as executive producer for Triumphant Pictures. Wendy Raquel Robinson also serves as an executive producer, alongside Narlyia Sterling and Shayla Riggle from The Hudson Sterling Firm.
The film is a powerful and poignant story that explores the challenges of finding one’s path in life. The film will be released later this year.
Wendy Raquel Robinson – Robinson is best known for her roles as high school principal Regina “Piggy” Grier on The WB comedy sitcom The Steve Harvey Show (1996–2002), and as sports agent Tasha Mack on The CW/BET/Paramount+ comedy-drama The Game (2006–present). Robinson has also had notable roles in films such as “Two Can Play That Game” and “Miss Congeniality”, and has made guest appearances on several television shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy”, “The Parkers”, “Insecure”, and “MacGyver” (2021). In addition to her acting career, Robinson is also involved in various philanthropic and charitable organizations and has received numerous awards for her work in the entertainment industry.
Clifton Powell – Powell began his career as a stage actor and later transitioned to film and television. Powell has appeared in over 100 movies and television shows, including “Ray,” “Menace II Society,” “Dead Presidents,” “Norbit,” and “House Party.” He is also known for his role as Pinky in the “Friday” film franchise. Powell has received critical acclaim for his performances and has won several awards, including the Best Actor Award at the American Black Film Festival for his role in the film “Civil Brand.” Powell is known for his voice-acting role as Big Smoke in the 2004 video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Imani Lewis – Lewis is constantly working and sharpening her acting skills. She has 15 acting credits to her name and is best known for her roles in “First Kill”, “Eighth Grade”, “The Equalizer”, “The Get Down”, and “Hightown”. “Hightown” was renewed for a third season in March 2022, so we can expect to see Imani in the upcoming season and the upcoming Hulu comedy movie titled “Miguel Wants to Fight”.
Lance Gross – Gross is best known for his role as Calvin Payne on the TBS sitcom “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” and OWN sitcom “Tyler Perry’s The Paynes”, as well as appearing in other Tyler Perry productions such as “Meet the Browns” (2008) film and “Tyler Perry’s Temptations: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor” (2013). He also co-starred in the 2010s “Our Family Wedding” alongside Forest Whitaker, Carlos Mencia, America Ferrera, and Regina King. He also starred as Secret Service Agent Marcus Finley in NBC’s political drama “Crisis”.
Dreamdoll – An American rapper, reality television personality, songwriter, and social media personality, Dreamdoll became famous after appearing in the “Bad Girls Club” TV series. She also appeared in VH1’S Love & Hip Hop media franchise. She is known for her songs “Abow” and “Watchu Like”.
